Heat Exchanger Design Handbook, 1983

Hemisphere Publishing, 1983
pdf, 2305 pages, english
ISBN: 3-1841-9080-3

The Heat Exchanger Design Handbook (HEDH) had its origins in the 1970s when, under the chairmanship of Professor Ernst Schlilnder, a group of us began to discuss the possibility of a handbook dealing with all aspects of heat exchanger design and operation including the basic design methodology, the associated heat transfer and fluid flow technology and the physical data required for design. This led to the adoption of a structure consisting of 5 Parts as follows:

- Part 1: Heat exchanger theory and generic application technology
- Part 2: Fluid mechanics and heat transfer
- Part 3: Thermal and hydraulic design of heat exchangers
- Part 4: Mechanical design of heat exchangers
- Part 5: Physical properties

The first (loose-leaf) edition of HEDH was published in 1983 by Hemisphere Publishing Corporation and contained about 1500 pages of new material structured as indicated above; the reception from reviewers and users was very positive and this encouraged the publishers to publish a series of five Supplements of additional material for inclusion in the loose-leaf binders. This process added around 500 pages to the material. In order to achieve a more systematic updating, a quarterly update journal Heat Exchanger Design Update (HEDU) was started in 1983 which carried new material for HEDH.

DotSoft ToolPac v18.0.0.9

In the never ending quest for faster AutoCAD/BricsCAD systems, users go the extra mile to purchase the fastest hardware. Faster processors, graphics cards, etc., are implemented in an attempt to speed up the processing of drawings. These improvements come at great expense and only provide a marginal gain in the amount of time it takes to actually complete a drawing. This expensive hardware is often underutilized as the operator wastes time doing repetitive tasks in the struggle to finalize a drawing.

If you do only one upgrade to your system this year, it should be the implementation of productivity software. Our ToolPac product was designed to eliminate the numerous bottlenecks in AutoCAD and BricsCAD. It contains over 750 functions designed with one purpose in mind, to save you time.

ToolPac is in use today by thousands of architects, engineers, and designers! This comprehensive collection of productivity tools works with AutoCAD 2007 or higher (LT not supported) or BricsCAD v12 Pro or higher. It works equally well in all environments, including Architectural, Engineering, Civil, Mechanical and Design.

Balgaisha Mukanova, Igor Modin - The Boundary Element Method in Geophysical Survey

Springer, 2018
pdf, 162 pages, english
ISBN: 978-3-319-72907-7

This volume is devoted to the application of the integral equations method (IEM) and boundary elements method (BEM) to problems involving the sounding of geological media using direct current (DC). Adaptive mesh generation algorithms and numerical methods for solving a system of integral equations are discussed. Integral equations for the media, which contains piecewise linear contact boundaries, immersed local inclusions, and subsurface relief, are derived and solved numerically. Describes in detail the application of the BEM and IEM to 2.5D direct problems using ERT for geological media with a complex structure and having a large number of internal contact boundaries. Provides algorithms of grid generation of the boundaries that are adapted to the geometry of the media, the surface relief and the measurements of electrode arrays. Discusses the application of the BEM to 3D sounding problems using the ERT method. Illustrates the applications of inversion programs to synthetic data generated using the BEM in comparison with the original model and discusses the quality of the associated interpretation

Paolo Rugarli - Steel Connection Analysis

Wiley-Blackwell, 2018
pdf, 537 pages, english
ISBN: 978-1-119-30346-6

Steel connection analysis and checking is one of the most complex problems in structural engineering, and even though we use very powerful computing tools, it is still generally done using very simplistic approaches. Fromthe point of view of a typical structural engineer, the problem to solve is to design and check nodes,1 not single connections, i.e. a number of connections between a number of different members – maybe tens or even hundreds of load combinations, inclined member axes, and generic stress states. In a typical 3D structure there may be several tens of such nodes, or maybe even hundreds, which may be similar, or may be different from one another; identifying nodes that are equal is one of the problems that the designer has to face in order to reduce the number of different possible solutions, and in order to get a rational design. However, this problem of detecting equal nodes has not been sufficiently researched, and there are currently no tools that are able to properly solve this issue. If posed with the due generality, the problem of checking 3D nodes of real structures has not been solved by automatic computing tools. Also, because a general method of tackling all these problems is apparently still lacking, usually a few ”cooking recipes” have been used to solve a limited number of typical, recurring (2D assimilated) nodes. Indeed, it often happens that true, real world nodes have to be analyzed by such recipes, despite the fact that the basic hypotheses needed to apply these recipes do not always hold true. This poses a serious problem because although these ”cooking recipes” have been widely used, in the past few years they have been applied to 3D structures designed using computer tools, in the non-linear range, perhaps in seismic areas, and with the aim of reducing the weight of steel. The effects of such oversimplification have already been seen in many structures where steel connections have failed, especially in seismic areas (e.g. Booth 2014), but even in non-seismic areas (e.g. White et al. 2013, Bruneau et al. 2011). Generally speaking, it is well known that connections are one of the most likely points of weakness of steel structures, one of the most cumbersome to design – indeed one of the least designed – and one of the least software-covered in structural engineering.

Frantisek Wald - Benchmark cases for advanced design of structural steel connections!

Ceska technika, 2016
pdf, 188 pages, english
ISBN: 978-80-01-05826-8

he CBFEM (component-based finite element model) is a new method to analyze and design connections of steel structures. The design focused CM (component model) is compared to FEM (finite elements models). The publication introduces Benchmark Cases for Validation and Verification procedures of structural steel joints. The hierarchy of the System response quantity is prepared for welded and bolted connections as well as for column bases. Each Benchmark Case starts with the task description and includes results of prediction by the analytical model according to EN 1993-1-5, references to experiments, validated model and numerical experiments, results of prediction by design Finite Element Analyses described in terms of global behavior and verification of resistance. At the end of the publication, the reader may check his calculation on Benchmark cases prepared for the particular joint. Finite Element Analyses is a current step in design of steel connections, which allows to predict the generally loaded joints with a complex geometry with the same efficiency and accuracy as the traditionally designed connections based on the best engineering practice. Implementation of the FEA models for the structural steel detailing creates the qualitative step as we may see in other areas of engineering.

26.11.2017 - 10:05 New registration on LAVteam is temporary closed

To avoid turning our project into a supermarket, I temporarily suspended registration of new users.
Unfortunately a great number of merchant bastards are annoying users with their immoderate business activity. Which is by the way fully prohibited here.
In short, take care of your accounts, trade and coercion to do it will be immediately banned.
I hope later we will be able to implement registration on the site and forum by invitations. It will certainly be free of charge.
Please understand correctly.

Eric Wing - Revit Schedules

Schedules—which display information extracted from the properties of different project elements—are the backbone of BIM. In this course, explore how to work with schedules in Revit. Focusing primarily on the "I" for information in BIM, instructor Eric Wing demonstrates how to drill into the Revit database and query data out of your models. Eric covers a few standard schedules such as door, window, and room schedules, and then dives into the specifics of Revit parameters, and how they relate to the underlying database that you have—perhaps, unknowingly—developed by virtue of modeling your project. He goes into creating blank schedules, material takeoffs, keynote legends, schedule keys, and more. Topics include: General schedules; Adding and scheduling project parameters; Imbedded schedules; Configuring schedules; Creating a blank schedule; Material takeoffs; Exporting schedules; Documentation schedules.

John Michael Rotter - ECCS 125 Buckling of Steel Shells, European Design Recommendations,
Eurocode 3, Part 1-6, 5th Edition

ECCS, 2008
pdf, 374 pages, english
ISBN: 92-9147-000-92

Metal shell structures have a very wide range of civil engineering applications, from towers, masts, wind turbine towers and chimneys to large storage vessels such as silos, tanks and biodigesters, as well as in pile foundations and harbour wall structures. A shell structure delivers great strength for a limited amount of material, and is highly optimised for each specific application. But this efficiency and optimisation brings with it both a susceptibility to buckling failures and the most complex behaviour of any class of structure. This book provides the designer with a comprehensive guide to the structural design of large metal shells, using either algebraic treatments or computer calculations of various complexities. It is closely based on the world’s leading standard on shell structural design, Eurocode 3 Part 1.6 (EN 1993-1-6), which includes extensive generic rules for all metal shells. This book provides an essential background and explanation of the rules, and extends them significantly. Using this book, the designer can confidently design large metal shells for a wide range of civil engineering applications.
